We begin tonight with two lives lost. We learned Ozzy Osbourne has died and we also have new reporting just in tonight on Cosby Show actor Malcolm Jamal Warner. Now we learn both he and his eight-year-old daughter were struggling in that current what authorities tried to do.

 

But we are going to begin tonight with the tributes pouring in at this hour from music icon Ozzy Osbourne, lead singer of Black Sabbath known as the godfather of heavy metal.

Bringing a softer side of the Prince of Darkness his wife Sharon and his chaotic but loving family to a whole new audience.

 

Born John Michael Osborne in 1948 in Birmingham England his life and career were plagued by drug problems and later health problems. He and his wife Sharon sitting down with our Robin Roberts after his Parkinson's diagnosis in 2020.

This officer telling us on Sunday Warner was swimming with his eight-year-old when surfers spotted them struggling and dove in to help. One surfer using his board to bring the little girl safely to shore but volunteer lifeguards had to pull Warner and another surfer from the ocean. Both surfers survived but Warner showed no vital signs after minutes of CPR.

What happened to his daughter?

 

She was safe but very scared police told me. The 54-year-old was declared dead at the scene. An autopsy confirming the cause was accidental drowning.

 

Playa Grande is known as one of the most dangerous beaches in Costa Rica. There are signs like this at the entrance even in English. Look at the top rip currents here all year high risk for drowning.

Over the years Warner chose to keep his family life private but he posted a few cherished moments with his daughter. There's my daughter's birthday.

Heat advisory for Chicago they will see likely the hottest of the season or to at least tie it with the feels like at 106 New York that 103 on Friday Washington DC 104 and we're watching tonight David some damaging wind threats in the northern plains into Minnesota that arrowhead there and a flood watch as well with Duluth. 08:32 Delta plane bound for Atlanta has close call with Aeroméxico jet on Mexico City runway

 

In the meantime we turn to the new scare on the runway a Delta flight taking off for Atlanta as another passenger plane was landing on the same runway. Authorities say the two passenger jets just 200 feet apart on the Mexico City runway.

 

That Delta 737 with 150 people on board going to Atlanta reaching about 60 miles an hour then slamming on the brakes. The pilot saw an Aeromexico jet right overhead coming into land on the same runway. Here's Gio Benitez.

 

A terrifying close call on one of the busiest runways in Latin America is under investigation tonight after two passenger jets were just 200 feet from each other.

 

A Delta 737 with 150 people on board bound for Atlanta was cleared for takeoff and picking up speed down the runway at Mexico City International Airport. At the same time air traffic control also cleared an Aeromexico jet to land on the same runway.

 

The Delta pilots at this point reaching about 60 miles per hour saw that aircraft flying right over them as it came in for landing and slammed on its brakes just 200 feet apart aborting takeoff and avoiding what would have been a catastrophe.

We don't know if the controller told the Aeromexico aircraft to land on the left hand and not the right hand runway where the Delta jet was.

 

It's unclear if the pilots of the Aeromexico jet saw the outbound Delta plane. It's the second known near miss for Delta in the last week. Friday a Delta regional jet coming in for landing at Minot International Airport in North Dakota made a hard turn after spotting a B-52 bomber.

The air force saying that the military jet seen here flying over a state fair with its location turned off was never told about an inbound commercial jet by Minot's air traffic control which the FAA says is run by a private company.

Next tonight as the White House tries to distance itself from the Jeffrey Epstein case we now learn the Justice Department is planning to speak with Epstein's former companion Ghislaine Maxwell and what President Trump is now saying tonight about this meeting.

Tonight as the White House struggles to turn the page from the Epstein investigation the Justice Department announcing they will speak with Jeffrey Epstein's former companion Ghislaine Maxwell who's now serving a 20-year prison sentence for trafficking underage girls to the sex offender.

 

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche who until recently was President Trump's personal attorney says he plans to meet with Maxwell soon saying if Ghislaine Maxwell has information about anyone who committed crimes against victims the FBI and the DOJ will hear what she has to say.

 

For years Trump socialized with Epstein and Maxwell and was asked about her when she was arrested in 2020.

 

Do you feel that she's going to turn in powerful men? How do you see that working out?

 

I don't know. I haven't really been following her too much. I just wish her well frankly.

 

In an interview with Axios shortly after he doubled down.

 

Mr. President Ghislaine Maxwell has been arrested on allegations of child sex trafficking.

 

Why would you wish such a person well?

 

I don't know that but I do know that she has she's been arrested for that. Her friend or boyfriend Epstein was either killed or committed suicide in jail. She's now in jail.

 

Yeah I wish her well. I'd wish you well. I'd wish a lot of people well. Good luck.

 

Today the President claimed he didn't know his Justice Department was planning to speak with Maxwell.

 

I don't know about it but I think it's something that would be sounds appropriate to do you know.

 

Trump clearly frustrated by the Epstein story today tried to shift the spotlight onto Barack Obama baselessly accusing the former president of treason in the 2016 election.

Tonight in a rare rebuke Obama firing back his spokesman pointing to the widely accepted conclusion that Russia worked to influence the 2016 presidential election but did not successfully manipulate any votes.

And again David the deputy attorney general says he plans to meet with Ghislaine Maxwell soon.
