02:37 NFL headquarters may have been targeted by gunman, New York City mayor says
Good evening. And it's great to have you with us here at a very busy Tuesday night.
We begin tonight with new reporting. We take you inside that deadly shooting right in the heart of New York City. It was just as we were coming on with the news last night.
Authorities say a gunman was walking calmly into a Park Avenue office building, opening fire on his way in and making it all the way to the thirty third floor. You can see it here. An M4 style assault rifle at his side.
He killed four people and wounded a fifth. The suspect, 27 year old Shane Tamura, approaching 345 Park Avenue, just blocks from Grand Central Station in the lobby, opening fire, killing an NYPD officer and two others before taking the elevator to the thirty third floor.
Officers with long guns responding, entering the building, soon running out, carrying the wounded, treating them on the street.
We're learning more about the terrifying ordeal inside. Look at this. Workers hearing the gunfire, then stacking office furniture to barricade the doors.
Police clearing the building, people running from the scene with their hands in the air. The faces of the fallen tonight.

rampage [ˋræm͵pedʒ] n. 横冲直撞; 撒野; 狂暴行为
ABC's chief investigative correspondent Aaron Katersky is on the scene leading us off tonight.
Tonight, the terrifying scene in midtown Manhattan. After a deadly shooting rampage that authorities now believe targeted the headquarters of the National Football League because the shooter thought he suffered a traumatic brain injury.
Sources tell ABC News the shooter left a three page note blaming the NFL for his traumatic brain injury. He did play football but never made it to that level. On this page obtained by ABC News, he wrote, Study my brain, please.
I'm sorry. This chilling image shows the shooter wearing sunglasses, casually walking toward his target with an M4 style rifle.
casually [ˋkæʒjuəlɪ] adv. 若无其事地
They're going to 345. That's where he is.
Police say 27 year old Shane Timura double-parked his BMW and entered the lobby about 6:30 last night, immediately opening fire. He shot and killed an NYPD officer.
double-park [ˋdʌb!ˋpɑrk] v. 并排停车
The shooter kept firing, killing a woman hiding behind a pillar and then a security guard taking cover behind a desk.
When the shooter then moved deeper inside the building, police say he allowed a woman stepping off an elevator to pass unharmed, perhaps seeking out the NFL offices. He instead wound up on the 33rd floor where he fired again down a hallway, … taking another life before shooting himself in the chest.
wind up: to arrive in a place or situation after or because of a course of action
Police carrying victims from the building, treating them on the street while other officers rushed inside with guns drawn, employees barricading doors with furniture, later exiting with their hands up. Office worker Tim Wynn terrified.

Can you tell me what you heard ran into the room? So loud. It was like ringing into the building.
Four people killed a fifth wounded before officials say the gunman took his own life.

Police say Tamura drove across the country from Nevada in a black BMW spotted Saturday in Colorado, Sunday in Nebraska and Iowa and Monday in New Jersey before arriving in New York less than two hours before the shooting.
His note claimed he had C. T. E. A brain condition associated with repeated blows to the head from playing football.

11:02 Trump: Epstein "stole" young women who worked at Mar-A-Lago
And President Trump, while returning to the White House on Air Force One late today, making a claim about Jeffrey Epstein.
The president now telling reporters that Jeffrey Epstein stole people who worked for him at Mar-a-Lago, saying some of them were young women and that some were from Trump's spa.
Here's Rachel Scott. Tonight, traveling back from Scotland on Air Force One, President Trump telling reporters sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, quote, took people who worked for me at his Mar-a-Lago resort, acknowledging some of them were young women.
He took people and because he took people, I said, don't do it anymore.
You know, they work for me. And he took beyond that. He took some others.
And once he did that, that was the end of him. I didn't like where they steal people. I don't like it.
Reporters then asking about those workers, some of them young women. Well, I don't want to say, but everyone knows the people that were taken. And it was the concept of taking people that work for me is bad.
But that story has been pretty well out there. And the answer is, yes, they were. Yeah.
In the spa. Yeah. People that work in the spa. One of the best spas in the world at Mar-a-Lago.
And people were taken out of the spa, hired by him. In other words, gone. And other people would come and complain.
This guy is taking people from the spa. I didn't know that. And then when I heard about it, I told him, I said, listen, we don't want you taking our people, whether it was spa or not spa.
I don't want him taking people. And he was fine. And then not too long after that, he did it again.
And I said, out of here.
Trump then asked if one of those young women was Virginia Giuffre, who claims Epstein's companion, Ghislaine Maxwell, recruited her at Trump's spa when she was just 16, taking her away from Mar-a-Lago and sex trafficking her to Epstein and later allegedly to Britain's Prince Andrew.
Maxwell denies that happened.
Giuffre later sued Prince Andrew for sexual assault. He consistently denied her claims, but later settled the case without admitting wrongdoing. She died by suicide earlier this year.
Mr. President, did one of those stolen persons, that include Virginia Giuffre?
I don't know. I think she worked at the spa. I think so.
I think that was one of the people. He stole her. And by the way, she had no complaints about us, as you know.
None whatsoever.
whatsoever [͵hwɑtsoˋɛvɚ] = whatever(語氣比 whatever 強)
Last week, Maxwell spent nine hours meeting with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who is President Trump's personal attorney. She is currently serving 20 years in prison.
The president has not ruled out pardoning her, saying, I'm allowed to do it.
Ghislaine Maxwell has also been subpoenaed by the House Oversight Committee. Today, she said she would be willing to testify if granted immunity, something that congressional leaders say they are not willing to do.
subpoena [səbˋpinə] v. 传唤;传讯
She also offered to testify publicly if granted a pardon, David.
Rachel Scott reporting again tonight from Scotland. Rachel, thank you.

this is something: to be particularly noteworthy, remarkable, interesting, special, or impressive
There's also images coming in right now. There's been a large explosion tonight, a huge fireball blowing through the roof. First responders now searching for multiple people still missing.
They're on the scene right now.
And then look at this, the harrowing close call involving a fighter jet, the pilot making a stunning maneuver, what he was trying to avoid in a moment here.
There's been an explosion at a plant in Fremont, Nebraska.

Video from KETV showing the blast through the roof at Horizon Biofuels. Authorities say at least three people were inside the facility at the time. Firefighters unable to enter the plant until it's ruled safe to do so.

To the index, a close call involving a Spanish Air Force fighter jet, the pilot performing a sudden maneuver to avoid a potentially devastating bird strike during an air show in northern Spain.
The EF-18 Hornet twisting and turning as the crowd watched. Air Force officials praising that pilot for averting a disaster.
When we come back here tonight, Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa taking us to Italy, their effort to lift an entire town and a team.
And you'll be cheering too.
15:51 Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos tell David Muir about their ESPN docuseries "Running with the Wolves"
Funny tonight here, Running with the Wolves, Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa returning to the country where Mark spent much of his childhood, Italy. Investing in a team and a town long forgotten.
They're hoping you'll cheer on that team too. Ciao. Ciao.
ciao [tʃaʊ] int. 意大利文中的地道口語, 解作「你好」或「再見」
On the set with Kelly and Mark, but this is no ordinary visit. You've really done it. You've really done it.
You've gone and bought a team. Great to see you.
Americans have known Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos since their days on All My Children.
Their acting careers, Kelly becoming a fixture in the mornings and then Mark joining her.
fixture [ˋfɪkstʃɚ] n. 长期固定于某项工作(或某种活动)的人
All right, we're here.
But their newest challenge.
It's beautiful. To lift the hopes of an entire town back in the country where Mark grew up.
You grew up in Italy for part of your childhood.
The first six, seven years in Italy with your parents and speaking Italian.
My mom really, I attributed her my love for this game. I remember her crying when the Italians won the World Cup in 1982.
attribute [əˈtrɪbjut] v. 把……归因于
So for me to be able to share these games with her and she gives me post match critiques and discussions were very close, but it brought us also very much closer.
critique [krɪˋtik] n. 评论;评论文章
She's actually very good. She should be in team management.
We bought a piece of this soccer team in Italy. Initially, this all seemed like a good idea. Careful what you wish for.
That should have gone in, man.
The two of you root for the underdogs. Anyone who comes on this show, you take care of them.
You root for them. You root for the audience. And I see real parallels with what you're doing in this small town in Italy.
parallel [ˋpærə͵lɛl] n. 类似的人(或事物)
We've always viewed ourselves as underdogs as well, you know, on the other side of the road for a little bit. We love that about us.
It's how we all found each other, I mean, really.
This town in this little known region of Italy, often forgotten, was in danger of losing their football club that they've had over a hundred years.
In Italy, football is everything. Everything.
The team is Campobasso, formed in 1919. The last time they soared was back in the 80s, then largely forgotten. The townspeople there cannot believe Mark and Kelly are now there because they believe in them.
I just want to be a lucky charm. I don't want to be an unlucky charm.
The dream in the eyes of the children.
When you watch those moments of Mark walking through that town, when they saw this is the guy who believes in us again, and the nonnas from the balconies waving down to you.
nonna 在意大利语中是「祖母」的意思
So amazing. It must have been incredible.
It's incredible for them.
They've given players who were once stars a second chance. And it's not just the players they believe in.
Even the guy who takes care of the pitch, he's very particular. There's a moment where you're flat out on the pitch. This is like my dream.
pitch [pitʃ] n. 运动场地;(尤指)足球场
You must feel sort of the weight of the connection now, this town 4,000 miles away.
weight [wet] n.(精神的)压力;重担;负担; 影响
The weight is an honor. It really, really is.
People have been fans for 40, 50 years, come up to you and say thank you. And then conversely, see the little kids who are just now wearing the jerseys and having something to root for. It's not work. Again, it's an honor.
conversely [kənˋvɝslɪ] adv. 反过来说;相反地
And we really want to win for them. Obviously, we want to win, but we really want to win for the town.
Well, anyone who knows the two of you, they're going to win. They're going to keep winning.
How are you on the pitch? We're recruiting.
I can take care of the pitch, baby.
