The world meets in this dynamic city to celebrate innovation and design 全世界在中国最激动人心的城市里相遇，以欢庆创新和设计

Today marks the opening of Expo 2010 in Shanghai. This long-awaited global event welcomes more than 200 exhibitor nations and expects over 70 million visitors. Befitting Shanghai’s architectural innovation, Expo 2010 presents an amazing array of designs that adhere to the theme of “Better City, Better Life” but still represent unique geographic styles.

二０一０年上海世博会在今日开幕，这项期待已久的全球活动欣然迎接超过两百个展出国，预期将吸引超过七千万游客造访。相当符合以建筑创新着称的上海的是，二０一０年世博会推出令人叹为观止的一系列设计，除了谨守「城市，让生活更美好」（译注：英文原文为世博会的官方翻译）的主题之外，但仍不忘展现出其独特的地理风情。

The “Oriental Crown” pavilion, in blazing red, proudly displays China’s role as host, and commands attention with its size and intricacy. The organizers have also created theme pavilions based on the style of old Shanghai, while the ultra-modern Expo Performance Center is ready to host audiences of up to 18,000.

火红的「东方之冠」馆自豪地展现出东道主中国所扮演的角色，以规模和错综复杂博得瞩目。主办者还打造出依据老上海风格所设计的主题馆，而超摩登的世博演艺中心已为容纳最高达一万八千名参观者作好准备。

Not to be outdone in originality, these nations have constructed signature structures that carry the message of smarter, greener living:

★ Italy’s modular exhibition is comprised of 20 units, made of “transparent” concrete. Following the exhibition, these units will be reconfigured into smaller, individual buildings.

意大利的模块展由二十个以「透明」混凝土制成的区所组成。在展览之后，这些区块将被重新装配到更小、个别的建筑内。

★ Chile invites guests up on the roof of their cylindrical swirl to enjoy a tropical South American garden.

★ How about a party? Poland offers an illuminated, gigantic paper cutting devoted to music. Visitors can sing, dance, and listen to performances of all genres in this wooden and recyclable concert hall. Come by and celebrate Chopin’s 200^th birthday on May 22.

The Shanghai Expo organizing committee has done its best to accommodate less affluent nations as well. The Joint African Pavilion displays cultural, artistic and historical treasures from many different African nations.

上海世博组委会也竭尽全力顾及到并不富裕的国家。非洲联合馆收藏的展出包括了来自许多不同非洲文化、艺术和历史瑰宝。
