It’s the jewel in the crown of what has often been ranked the best city in the world. Larger than New York’s Central Park, it’s a thousand-acre peninsula of old-growth ___1___, world-class flower gardens, and sheltered coastal wetlands. Forty-eight kilometers of hiking trails weave through the towering red cedars and Douglas firs, some ___2___ over sixty meters in height. A ten-kilometer-long seawall offers hours of ___3___ strolling, cycling, and in-line skating, surrounded by spectacular views of mountains, islands, and glorious ocean sunsets. Where is this beautiful place? It’s in Vancouver, and the place is called Stanley Park. For Vancouver ___4___, it’s the best backyard playground they’ve ever known.
Visitors to Stanley Park come from far and ___5___. In 1889, Lord Stanley ___6___ the park “…. to the use and enjoyment of people of all colors, creeds, and customs for all time.” People have taken him at his word, and this natural reserve draws a(n) ___7___ of eight million nature lovers, sightseers, and fitness buffs from around the world every year.
It is the great seawall, however, which is the star attraction of Stanley Park. Originally ___8___ to prevent erosion, the seawall took nearly six decades to build. Walking along the wall’s pathway is always a unique experience. As the tides, weather, and seasons change, so ___9___ the splendid scenery. Seeing it all, one cannot help ___10__ absorb the power and beauty of Nature.
