Neil was always a little different from most students in my high school. He was shorter and skinnier than any one else in my grade, almost never played any sports or games with anyone else, and was obsessed with two things: Star Trek and his handheld video game – Game Boy. He didn’t talk much, but when he did it was often loud and sounded overly excited. Neil was very good at all our science courses, however.

One time a teacher tried to separate the class into groups, but Neil wanted to sit next to me. When the teacher insisted that he move, Neil suddenly broke down into tears. At one point during the 9^th grade, he began bringing his Game Boy to school and playing a basketball game every chance he had. He would block out the world around him, and almost refuse to speak or pause the game.

有一次老师把全班同学分成小组，但尼尔想坐在我旁边。当老师坚持要他移动位置时，尼尔突然崩溃哭泣。九年级的时候，他开始把Game Boy带来学校，并且一有机会就玩篮球游戏。他可以完全封闭周遭的世界，且拒绝说话、或是将电玩游戏暂停。

Not all of our classmates felt like tolerating this though, and soon Neil was being teased for his obsession. Looking back, I feel like Neil was most likely someone suffering from Asperger’s Syndrome, a disease I heard about in science class.

然而不是所有同学都愿意忍受他，不久后尼尔开始因为沉迷自己的事物而被欺负，回头想想，尼尔很可能患有亚斯伯格症，这是我在科学课上学到的病症。

Children and teenagers who are diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome face special challenges while at school. Their behavior varies but many of their actions are not normal: they might speak abnormally loud, interrupt people, or show strange obsessions. What seems like rude behavior is usually noton purpose, but it’s hard for others to recognize this. With such lacking social skills, people with Asperger’s are often bullied or ignored.

被诊断患有亚斯伯格症的孩童或青少年，在学校常会面临特别的挑战。他们的行为有很多种，但多数都不正常，他们可能讲话过度大声，打断他人说话，或是有奇怪的沉迷倾向。他们一些不礼貌的行为通常不是故意的，不过其他人很难理解。如此地缺乏社交技巧，患有亚斯伯格症的人进而常被霸凌或是忽略。

Other children will recognize that someone diagnosed with the syndrome is odd, but they often don’t know how to deal with it. Because of this, they often become tired of these “weird” guys. When their patience wears thin, they turn to neglecting or teasing the Asperger’s kids.

其他孩子知道患有这种病症的人行为有点怪，但他们常常不知道该如何与这些人相处。因此，孩子们常对这些「奇怪」的人感到厌烦。当他们耐性磨光时，开始忽略、或是欺负患有亚斯伯格的小孩。

Responsibly, parents of children diagnosed with Asperger’s need to tell schools and teachers about their child’s condition. The next step is classroom education, which can help students and teachers practice patience and understanding when interacting with someone who has Asperger’s. Rather than act negatively, it’s important for students to accept someone different and try to empathize with them.

责任上来说，小孩患有亚斯伯格的父母必须告知学校与老师们孩子的状况，下一个步骤是课堂教育，能帮助学生跟老师们与亚斯伯格孩子互动时，能发挥耐心与同理心。与其用负面的方式对待，同学们学着接受不一样的人与展现同情心是非常重要的。
