Summer is a magical season. The days get longer, the air is warmer, and each spoonful of ice cream is more delicious than the last. It’s also the time of year when I feel ashamed of my body. I can’t bring myself to put on a sundress or a bathing suit. I feel as fat as a cow in a bikini! I know that if I go outside, I’ll see at least one pretty girl wearing a camisole and hot pants. I just know they will look stunning and skinny as a rail.
I’ve tried for the last two months to lose weight for summer, but nothing has worked. First, I started running for hours on end but I quit after I passed out one day. Then I just stopped eating, but 20 hours into fasting, I broke down and ate a giant bag of chips by myself. I even tried to eat only apples for a week, but that just made me dizzy. I need to find a better way to get fit, but how?

Fitter, Stronger, Happier
While class and homework are a big part of every teenager’s life, there is one necessary aspect of life that some teens ignore: physical fitness. Staying fit is important, as it helps us relieve stress and generally improves our quality of life. Studies show that many students erase the benefits of their physical education classes by watching too much TV and chowing down on junk food after school. These bad habits can lead to weight gain, which carries a number of consequences, from depression to diabetes and heart disease.
But there are some simple things anyone can do to stay fit. The first thing is to restrict the amount of any food you eat that is high in cholesterol and saturated fat. Teens should also avoid too many sugary drinks. Last but not least, everyone needs to do a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise at least three times a week. This exercise could be walking quickly, jogging, cycling, or playing sports. Anyone who follows these steps should feel fit, have more confidence about their looks, and even perform better in school.
