Summer’s been over for a while now, but I can’t get it off my mind. My job at the bookstore was a great experience. I worked hard and played hard. Actually, when it comes to playing, I definitely went a little overboard. Nearly all my money has gone up in smoke.
I don’t even know how much money I made, but I am sure of how little I have left: NT$1,000. The only reason I still have that is because my mom found it when she washed my jeans. My parents gave me a serious talk about saving my money. As much as it kills me to admit it, they are right.
I own some great new clothes, but I really should have put away a little cash for a rainy day. Fortunately, I have just enough money left to open a savings account. The next time I get any money as a gift or from work, I’ll be sure to save at least half of it.

Mastering Money Management
Some people, especially teenagers, only think carefully about how to manage their money after it’s already gone. To avoid the embarrassment of going broke, people should do a little financial planning. Furthermore, it’s important to have a nest egg in case of emergencies.
All you need is a pen and some paper to get started. In less than a minute you can write down a simple budget. This plan includes the amount of money you get in a month as well as the daily expenses you cannot avoid, such as buying food. The money that is left over can be divided into money for saving and money for fun.
As for saving money, keeping it in a savings account at the bank is a wise choice. It will be safe, of course, and banks even offer interest. Finally, when you come across an item at the mall that you would like to purchase, but you don’t really need, always think twice before pulling out your wallet.
