Do you feel like watching a catchy music video? What about an original homemade film, or a personal, revealing video blog? Through the Internet’s latest phenomenon, YouTube, all these things are as close as your computer!

YouTube is a website that allows users all over the world to post videos. Whether it’s a funny home video, or even just you talking to your webcam, YouTube will host it. Although only founded in February of 2005, the website has become all the rage. It draws as many as 20 million visitors each month.

YouTube是个供全球使用者发表影音的网站。不管是有趣的居家影片，甚至只是你对着视讯摄影机说话，YouTube都会贴出。虽然2005年二月才创设，但此网站已蔚为风潮，每月吸引高达两千万名访客。

Thanks to YouTube, simple amateur videos can end up being immensely popular. One of the most well-known is a three-minute clip dubbed “The Diet Coke and Mentos Experiments.” It shows two men in white lab coats displaying a chemical reaction between the two products – a beverage spring bursting several meters into the sky. The clip was a runaway hit, inspiring thousands of imitators and generating $30,000 in advertising revenue for the creators.

A more controversial case was that of a user named “Lonelygirl 15.” The videos uploaded were presented as the diary of a teenage girl. They attracted a huge following, but some viewers grew suspicious. After investigating, viewers discovered that “Lonelygirl 15” was actually a paid actress. The clips were said to be produced by Hollywood professionals.

另一较具争议性的案例，则是使用者名称为「十五岁寂寞女孩」的影片。此上传的影片看起来犹如一名少女的日记，吸引众人点阅，但有些人看了心生怀疑。调查后发现，「十五岁寂寞女孩」其实是一名受雇的女演员，据说影片为好莱坞专业人员所制作。

Many viewers were outraged, but this episode also helps to demonstrate the phenomenal power of YouTube. Even the U.S. government has recognized its potential and is now using it to distribute anti-drug commercials. From homemade science experiments to educational messages, YouTube has something for everyone!

许多观看者因而勃然大怒，但这段插曲也证实了YouTube的惊人威力，连美国政府也认同其潜力，现正利用它播送反毒广告。从自制科学实验到教育讯息，YouTube皆能投每个人所好！
