Mandy is standing behind her brother, Pete, who is using the family computer:  曼蒂正站在弟弟帕特的后面，他正在打计算机：

M: What’s a blog, Pete? It sounds like something out of Star Wars.

帕特，什么是blog啊？听起来像是星际大战里头的东西。

P: A blog, dear sister, is a Web page that has frequently updated posts — kind of like an on-line journal.

亲爱的姊姊，blog就是一种经常更新张贴内容的网页──有点像是网络日记。

M: A diary on the internet? I thought diaries were supposed to be private.

网络上的日记？我还以为日记应该是不公开的。

P: True, but if you want to share your thoughts with other people on the net, you can do so by blogging.

是啊，但如果你想在网上和别人分享你的想法，你就可以blog一番。

M: Can it be about a hobby, like comic books? I could talk about that for days on end!

可以谈谈嗜好，比方说漫画书吗？那种东西我是可以连续谈上几天几夜的。

P: It can be about anything: fashion, music, traveling, or just yourself and your everyday life.

什么都可以啊：时尚、音乐、旅游，或单就你自己和你的日常生活都可以。

M: Cool! And I can update it, right? Like you’re doing now.

酷！而且我可以更新它，对不对？就像你现在做的。

P: You bet — any time you have something new to say or more information to add.

没错──随时你有新的东西要说，或想加上更多信息都可以。

M: But how do you create a blog? Is it like creating a web site?

可是要怎么制作blog呢？跟制作网页一样吗？

P: You can go to www.blogger.com and read the easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions. It’s much easier than setting up a Web site.

你可以上www. blogger.com这个网站，读读上头简易步骤说明。那比架设网站容易得多。

M: I guess anybody can start a blog—even my sweet, but not-so-smart brother.

我想任何人都可以开设blog的──即使是我这个可爱却不怎么聪明的弟弟。

P: Who’s not so smart? Last week you asked me if Shaquille O’Neal was a kind of Italian pasta, remember!

谁不那么聪明啊？上个礼拜你还问我，侠客欧尼尔是不是一种意大利面哩，记得吧！
