Rebecca and Ian are heading to Rome in a week. The couple is checking out a guidebook:
R: So much to see, so little time.
I: I know. There are Etruscan tombs, baroque basilicas, catacombs, temples, palaces, you name it – think we’ll need a month to take it all in.
R: As long as I can roam the streets and soak up the historical atmosphere, I’ll be a happy camper.
I: We must set up an itinerary to ensure we see everything.
R: Forget the itinerary. I don’t know about you, but I’m going on vacation. I don’t want to be following a schedule.
I: But what if we miss something? We’d be kicking ourselves if we forget to visit the Forum.
R: We will not forget to visit the Forum.
I: We’re going to be organized. Here goes: Day one … let’s see … we can walk to the Colosseum, through the Forum, then up to the Piazza di Spagna…
R: Slow down. We’ll burn ourselves out before midday.
I: … then it’s across to the Vatican…
R: Whoa, Nelly. I was planning on going on a romantic getaway with my boyfriend, not some obsessive schedule maker.
I: I’m sure we can squeeze some romantic walks into the schedule. How about after the Vatican?
R: How about you going on a package tour that’ll have everything planned for you instead?
