Flights of Fancy: The World of Hayao Miyazaki 宫崎骏的奇幻飞行梦

For more than two decades, Hayao Miyazaki has delighted audiences with his animated films. An avowed pacifist and environmentalist, Miyazaki uses his movies to address issues important to him. Most of his movies feature female heroes and fanciful flight scenes. Another Miyazaki trademark is the absence of characters that are clearly defined as either good or evil.

这二十多年来，宫崎骏的动画片作品带给影迷许多欢乐时光。宫崎骏在片子中传达他和平主义及环保等重要理念。他的作品中，大多有勇敢的女主角和奇幻的飞行场景，另外还有一个特色：没有善恶壁垒分明的角色性格。

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Miyazaki’s first independently made feature, contains all these elements. The young princess Nausicaä leads her people in a poisonous world that has been damaged by mankind’s arrogance. She stubbornly sticks to her goal of coming to terms with nature, and refuses to accept violent solutions.

宫崎骏的第一部动画长片《风之谷》，就包含了上述的特色。在片中，地球因为人类的自大无知，整个被毁坏成毒气笼罩的世界。年轻的乌西卡公主领导着民众前进。她择善固执，保护大自然的心决不妥协，更拒绝采用暴力来解决问题。

Miyazaki’s latest movie, Howl’s Moving Castle, also has a plucky female hero. Based on the children’s book by Diane Jones, this movie is about a young girl named Sophie who has been magically transformed into an old woman! Sophie leaves home and eventually comes upon a mysterious flying castle. The wizard of the castle has a reputation for kidnapping young girls. Because she is an old woman, Sophie feels she has nothing to lose by seeking out the wizard. Gathering up her courage, she enters the castle to find a way to lift her curse.

宫崎骏的新片《霍尔的移动城堡》也有这样一位坚持理念的女英雄。这部片改编自黛安娜．琼斯的童书。主角是一位名为苏菲的女孩，但是不幸中了魔法成为老婆婆！苏菲从此远离家园，并遇见一座神秘的飞行城堡。这座城堡的魔法师因为绑架年轻女孩而恶名昭彰。因为苏菲已经变成老婆婆，觉得自己去寻找这位魔术师也不会有什么损失。于是鼓起勇气，进入魔法城堡，寻找解除魔法的秘方。

Howl’s Moving Castlehas all the trappings that Miyazaki fans love: strange magic, breathtaking flying scenes, and plenty of colorful characters. Sophie also continues the tradition of Miyazaki’s dynamic female heroes. Howl’s Moving Castle is another magical addition to Miyazaki’s already legendary series of animation masterpieces
