Thanksgiving is coming and it’s traditional at this time of year to express thanks for all the good things in your life. If you’re having trouble recalling what those are, here are a few suggestions:
Be thankful for that heavy school bag. It builds muscle and stamina, both of which you’ll need to fight the bullies who want your money.
Be thankful when you get a bad mark on a test that it’s because you didn’t study hard enough, and not because you’re stupid (like the student who asked the librarian, “Do you have books here?”)
Be thankful for the Internet. It lets you chat with your friends all night, even after you’ve been grounded for staying out with them all night.
Be thankful for that contagious cold. It means people will leave you alone for a change.
Be thankful for your parents’ nagging and scolding; it makes adapting to the adult world so much easier later on.
Be thankful that your ex-boyfriend or girlfriend is indeed your ex. When you see who they’re stuck with now, you know it would have been downhill all the way.
Be thankful for the noise of garbage trucks. This is the only classical music some people will ever hear.
Be thankful you’re not an Academy Award winner. Then you would have far too many people to thank.
Be thankful for gravity; without it, going to the bathroom would be a messy business.
And finally, be thankful if you are able to laugh at this list. It means _____.
(a) your English is improving
(b) you are as nuts as the rest of us 你跟我们一样是疯子
(c) you will laugh at anything
(d) all of the above
