His art gives a sense of an alternate universe full of people ___5___ bloated bodies and puffy cheeks are sometimes symbolic of power, privilege and overstuffed egos. In his painting A Couple, a rotund man and woman wearing upscale clothing appear to be in conflict with the peaceful scenery in the background. Botero’s paintings may seem cartoonish, but are simply inflated reflections of reality.
