If you think our sun is bright, imagine an even brighter star exploding. ___1___ These tremendous blasts can outshine all the other stars in the galaxy put together!

A supernova is the giant explosion of a dying star in space. ___2___ When they can grow no more, the inside of the star collapses under its own weight. This causes the outer layers of the star to explode into a kaleidoscope of light and color. ___3___ They release enormous amounts of gas and dust which can spark the formation of new stars.
