Few sculptors have had as much influence on modern art as the legendary Taiwanese artist Ju Ming. He was born into a poor family in Miaoli in 1938. At age 15, he served as an apprentice for the esteemed wood craftsman Lee Chin-chuan. ___1___
极少雕塑家能像台湾传奇艺术家朱铭一般，对现代艺术有如此大的影响力。朱铭于1938年出生于苗栗的一户穷苦人家。15岁时，朱铭跟随极受尊敬的木匠李金川，在接下来三年四个月的学徒生涯中，朱铭勤奋地工作，习得了雕塑与绘画的基本技巧。
Later, he would study under the iconic Taiwanese sculptor Yuyu Yang. Master Yang instructed him to empty his mind of all techniques and find inspiration from within. ___2___

In his Taichi Series, Ju Ming used large, bronze sculptures to capture the spirit of this gentle martial art. ___3___ The inspiration for his other famous collection, Living World Series, came when Ju Ming observed the diversity of people in New York City. ___4___ Ju Ming hopes that people who see his Living World sculptures will create their own stories about them, or perhaps recall memories from their own lives.
