Two men in white lab coats calmly prepare their outlandish scientific experiment. One of them grasps a bottle of Diet Coke, and the other holds a ___1___ of Mentos over the opening of the bottle. When the candy is dropped into the soda, it creates a violent geyser of Diet Coke ___2___ six meters into the air! This three-minute video sparked what would soon become a huge Internet phenomenon.

The video first showed up on YouTube.com. Shortly after that, adults, as well as kids around the world, were seen ___3___ the experiment for themselves. The buzz on the World Wide Web kept growing, ___4___ eventually the creators got US$30,000 in advertising revenue for this Mentos miracle!

How does the experiment work? Soda is full of a gas called carbon dioxide (CO₂). The gas molecules are ___5___ by the surface tension of the liquid. Then how does the Mentos candy let them fly ___6___? Well, when the Mentos candy touches the soda, the gum arabic  from the dissolving candy helps the gas ___7___ from the bottle, releasing a stunning spray of gas and soda.
