If you wanted to show people the beauty, culture, and cuisine of Taiwan, but only had a short time to do it, where would you take them? In southern Taiwan, there is a tourist paradise that offers everything. It’s Pingtung County, where the sun and surf invite you to embrace the best of Taiwan.

Every year, tourists flock to Donggang Township for the Bluefin Tuna Cultural Festival. The giant bluefin, hailed as the Rolls-Royce of raw seafood, is the world’s most expensive fish. A whole fish weighing over 250 kilograms could fetch a whopping NT$300,000 in Taiwan! The six-week festival features sightseeing and seafood, with tasty bluefin tuna sashimi being the biggest draw.

每年，游客涌到东港镇参加「黑鲔鱼文化观光季」。硕大的黑鲔鱼号称生海鲜里的劳斯莱斯，是世界最贵的鱼。一尾超过250公斤的黑鲔鱼，在台湾可卖到30万台币。这为期六周的庆典以观光及海鲜为号召，最吸引人的莫过于美味的黑鲔鱼生鱼片。

After savoring fresh sashimi, you can head on over to Kenting National Park. Many sun lovers and diving enthusiasts are attracted to its beautiful white sand beaches, coral reefs, and a variety of water sports. Within the park, one of the best views in Taiwan can be found at Guanshan. There, the coral tableland rises to a height of 152 meters, providing a remarkable view of the entire coastline between Maobitou, a rock formation that resembles a cat’s nose, and Eluanbi.

Located at the southernmost tip of Taiwan, the Eluanbi Lighthouse has been guiding the way for ships since 1888. Before then, many ships met their end in the area due to dangerous hidden reefs. Today, the Eluanbi Lighthouse still lights up the night sky, like a gem sparkling in the hazy moonlight.

The lives of the people in Pingtung County have always been closely connected with the sea. No wonder Pingtung is home to the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium. Walking through Asia’s longest underwater tunnel, you can experience what it’s like to live underwater. Beluga whales, sharks, rays, and even a whale shark swim playfully around you.

Try those chewy, luscious pig knuckles with a sweet and salty sauce and you will understand why they are a renowned delicacy in Taiwan. And for a dish that is sure to bring tears to your eyes, sample a Hengchun onion with some light dressing. The onions grown there are sweet, juicy, and full of vitamins that boost your health.
