Imagine living in an ice palace in the Arctic, like the ruler of a magical, frozen kingdom. It might sound like a dream or a Disney movie, but such a place actually exists. And no, it’s not in Narnia. Let’s check in to ICEHOTEL.

ICEHOTEL is in northern Sweden, 200 kilometers inside the Arctic Circle. Back in 1990, when the location was just a giant igloo housing an art exhibition, a group of foreign tourists decided to spend the night there. Their rave reviews the next morning convinced its makers that converting the structure into an elaborate winter resort would meet with a warm reception, despite the chilly temperatures.

Every winter since then, ICEHOTEL has been rebuilt, each time to a new design, thanks to the various artists invited to take part in its re-creation. Absolutely everything is made of ice. Ice pillars keep the structure standing, ice chandeliers light the halls, and the drinks are served in ice glasses. Even the beds are made of ice, but you won’t catch a cold when sleeping on them. They are covered in top-of-the-line mattresses and equipped with ultra-warm sleeping bags to keep guests toasty warm.
