In this “green” age, where environmental issues are in the public eye more than ever, eco-friendly initiatives are very much in vogue. This is the case in the field of architecture, as ___1___ numbers of structures are springing up around the globe. Here, we present a ___2___ of the most revolutionary projects currently in the pipeline.

With his latest creation, Physalia, architect Vincent Callebaut has really pushed the boat out in devising a creative solution for a pressing ecological problem. Named after a ___3___ of jellyfish which it somewhat resembles, Physalia is basically a floating garden. The structure will no doubt be an eye-catching sight and a charming experience for those who climb ___4___. However, the really ingenious element of the design is that, as it cruises along the rivers of Europe, it will be carrying out its own ___5___ operation by filtering polluted water. To ___6___ boast its green credentials, it will run on renewable energy sources like solar power and hydroelectricity.

The British capital London has a reputation for gloomy weather, but there is reason to get excited about one ___7___ cloud on the horizon. Plans are under way for an innovative structure known as the Cloud to be erected in time for the London Olympics in 2012. It would consist of two slender towers overlooking the Olympic Stadium and ___8___ at the top by a cluster of plastic bubbles, or “digital cloud.” These bubbles will act as observation decks and display Olympic event updates. Like Physalia, the whole ___9___ promises to be completely self-powered. Besides solar energy, the Cloud will also use “people energy,” energy created by people walking or cycling up to the top.
