A group of enthusiastic students gathers to debate the latest hot topics. But they aren’t discussing celebrity gossip or fashion. These students are ___1___ about issues like global warming and the world financial crisis because this is a meeting of the Model United Nations.

Model UN groups carry out academic simulation of the United Nations. ___2___ the roles of different nations’ diplomats, participants debate and attempt to resolve the same issues discussed at the real UN assembly. The idea of Model UN ___3___ in the U.S. during the 1920s as a simulation of a pre-UN group, the League of Nations. Since then, it has seen its popularity continue to ___4___. Today, more than 4000,000 middle school, high school, and college students from 40 nations, including Taiwan, take part.
