Good evening, and we begin tonight here with several breaking stories. There's an urgent homicide investigation unfolding right now a top American Idol producer and her husband have both been found dead.

But we start with the deadly flooding in the Northeast the states of emergency the terrifying images from the New York City subway passengers trapped in cars.

Subway stairs turned into waterfalls with more than two inches of rain falling in an hour…..

A geyser at the 28th Street stop the conductor of the subway train telling passengers. It was too dangerous to open the doors. There was so much water on the platform and in the tunnel.

geyser [ˋgaɪzɚ] n. 喷泉;间歇泉

On New York City's east side FDR Drive was turned into a river. Dozens of water rescues in Union County, New Jersey family saved by boat and high-water vehicles as well.

high-water [ˋhaɪ͵wɑtɚ] adj. 高水位的

in Wayne, New Jersey a bolt of lightning too close for comfort for one delivery driver right there He didn't survive at all .

too close for comfort 近得令人擔心; 近得令人害怕

And a home explosion as this emergency was all playing out in North Plainfield, New Jersey……….

Tonight there are new flood watches and warnings Ginger Zee is here and ABC's Janai Norman with the harrowing images right here in New York.

Tonight the states of emergency in the Northeast after deadly record-breaking flooding. In New York City more than two inches of rain falling in just an hour the highest hourly Non-tropical rainfall ever.

Subway stations turned to waterfalls, geysers erupting inside the 28th Street subway station.

The storms inundating roads all around New York City and into New Jersey right in the middle of rush hour.

In Scotch Plains, New Jersey first responders used rescue boats and high water vehicles to bring families to higher ground.

In North Plainfield, New Jersey cars in the water one of them on fire.

Neighbors were told to evacuate around 5 p.m. Monday You can see it in this house how high the water was coming up so high look here at the house next door this home exploded overnight.

Fortunately that family made it out safely.

The house still smoldering this morning. Sadly not far from here receding water revealing tire tracks that are believed to be from a vehicle swept off the road with two women inside. They didn't survive.

In Wayne, New Jersey this delivery driver almost struck by lightning. Roads swamped in Maryland, and outside Richmond, Virginia some 50 people had to be rescued after waterways in Petersburg rose 10 feet in just a few hours authorities declaring a state of emergency there too.

And David here in North Plainfield authorities are still investigating the cause of this house explosion that happened right in the middle of this flood emergency.

A major cleanup effort is underway the ground still saturated here David in this area is under a new flood watch starting tomorrow.

So let's get more on that Janai. Thanks so much

5:26 Potential tropical system to bring heavy rain from Florida to Louisiana through end of the week

Let's get the chief meteorologist Ginger Zee and Ginger as we heard Janai say that flood threat in the east is not over.

No, not at all, Petersburg, Virginia that you saw in her piece. They're getting that flooding again in a flood watch until midnight tonight.

piece [pis] n. 一则消息,报导

They're not alone. Those flash flood warnings are for areas that have already seen two to three inch per hour rainfall rates again tonight from North Carolina right up through that flood watch in Maryland.

So that's through midnight tonight, but by tomorrow afternoon that same area that Janai was in has a flood watch for those storms that will come through in the afternoon.

On that already saturated three to even eight inches that you had it's gonna be really hard for the creeks and rivers.

So tomorrow afternoon watch that in northwestern, New Jersey. Then we have to talk about that area of interest that low-pressure system crossing the peninsula of Florida at this moment. It has a chance at becoming our next named storm, which would be Dexter.

But whether it becomes something or not, it will bring a lot of rain looks like New Orleans already in a flood watch from Thursday to Saturday, Louisiana's gonna be that target for the heavy rain, David.

We'll watch it right here with you, Ginger. See you first thing in the morning on GMA. Thank you

Police came to do a wellness check. And the family said they hadn't heard from him in four days.

wellness check 安危检查

Police had responded to a possible burglary at the home last Thursday. But the LAPD says at the time there were no signs of trouble and the house was highly fortified. Police now believe the murders happened that day.

burglary [ˋbɝglərɪ] n. 破门盗窃;抢劫

Motive is unknown. We're still looking into whether he has any type of relationship with the victims.

Right now it is an apparent random attack.

David a spokesperson for American Idol says Robin had worked with the show since 2009 and she was loved and respected by all who came in contact with her. They say they are devastated by her and her husband's passing, David.

Yeah horrific discovery. Trevor Thank you

07:52 Trump on Epstein investigation: Bondi should release "credible" files

Next tonight here President Trump this evening now weighing in on the Jeffrey Epstein controversy now saying Attorney General Pam Bondi should release quote whatever she thinks is credible and Pam Bondi has now been asked Will she do it?

Here's our chief Washington correspondent Jonathan Karl tonight.

Today amid a growing Republican outcry over the Justice Department's refusal to release the files from their investigation of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

outcry [ˋaʊt͵kraɪ]n. 喊叫,吶喊;强烈的抗议(或反对)

refusal [rɪˋfjuz!] n. 拒绝

President Trump said his Attorney General Pam Bondi should release quote whatever she thinks is credible.

Whatever she thinks is credible she should release.

For years vocal Trump supporters including Kash Patel and podcast host Dan Bongino fired up the Trump base by stoking shadowy conspiracy theories about Epstein.

vocal [ˋvok!] adj. 畅所欲言的,直言不讳的

fire up 煽动

stoke [stok] v. 给…添加燃料; 给…加油

After he won back the White House, Trump rewarded both of them naming Patel FBI director and making Bongino his deputy as Attorney General Bondi promised to release the Epstein files.

But then earlier this month the Justice Department and the FBI released a memo saying the case was closed and no further Information would be made public that triggered an avalanche of outrage on the right.

outrage [ˋaʊt͵redʒ] n. 义愤,愤慨

Even the president's daughter-in-law Laura Trump said quote there needs to be more transparency.

I would like to see that also but I think the Attorney General the credibility is very important and you want credible evidence or something like that.

The president like many New York celebrities had some association with Epstein when Epstein was arrested in 2019 Trump said he had had a falling-out with him and hadn't spoken to him in 15 years.

falling-out [ˋfɔlɪŋ͵aʊt] n. 不和;吵架

Today Trump told ABC's CKatherine Faulders that Bondi briefed him on the Justice Department's review of the Epstein files.

What did she tell you about the review and specifically did she tell you at all that your name appeared in the …

She said she's given us just a very quick briefing and in terms of the credibility of the different things that they've seen.

Reporters then asked Bondi if she's now ready to release the files.

Our memo speaks for itself and we'll get back to you on anything else I haven't seen all of his statements today.

But on Capitol Hill a growing number of Republicans are sounding off on the Attorney General.

sound off(尤指未经邀请)大发议论,言辞激烈地发表意见

I'm not happy. Nobody's happy about it. Nobody knows what's going on.

The president's effort to put out this fire is not working at least not yet.

Mr. Epstein was a sex trafficker I think it's reasonable for the American people to ask who he sexed trafficked these young women to? If anybody?

trafficker [ˋtræfɪkɚ] n. 作非法买卖者;从事违法勾当者

Democrats say this is all a problem of Trump's own making.

The whole country is saying release the files that's what Donald Trump said, that's what JD Vance said.

That's what the Attorney General said That's what the FBI director said and now suddenly they want to sweep the whole thing under the rug.

sweep something under the rug 隐瞒,掩饰

Today speaker of the house Mike Johnson said that Attorney General Bondi should come forward and explain her inconsistent statements about the Epstein files and at least two Republican senators close to Trump are calling for congressional testimony from Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's longtime associate who is now in prison for conspiring with Epstein to sexually abuse young girls, David.

John Karl on this again tonight John. Thanks

11:11 Reinforcements called in to help extinguish Grand Canyon wildfires

We're also tracking those major fires burning near the Grand Canyon now destroying more than 70 buildings many of them historic in the canyon including the famous Grand Canyon Lodge and tonight they are now calling in reinforcements. ABC's Faith Abubey is on the scene with that smoke right behind her Faith.

David you can see behind me those heavy plumes of smoke. That is the Dragon Bravo Fire pushing into the canyon extreme summer temperatures fueling the flames here officials now calling in reinforcements doubling the number of helicopters doing water drops and requesting additional firefighters from multiple states.

This fire is still 0% contained some historic parts of the canyon though already destroyed Including the Grand Canyon Lodge and in Colorado incredible new images from the Turner Gulch fire quadrupling in size.

Evacuations are underway back here in the Grand Canyon crews have been battling two wildfires for days now but officials tell me it is still too soon to say how quickly they can get the fires under control, David.

Even with that smoke a stunning scene behind you Faith, thank you

12:11 Colorado dentist accused of lacing wife's protein shakes on trial for murder

Now to the Colorado dentist on trial accused of killing his wife of 23 years by allegedly poisoning her slowly and what prosecutors said today? He was putting in her protein shakes that trial now underway and here's our chief national correspondent Matt Gutman tonight.

Tonight prosecutors laying out their case against the former Colorado dentist accused of murdering his wife with protein shakes laced with cyanide, arsenic and a chemical commonly found in eye drops.

arsenic [ˋɑrsnɪk] n.【化】砷;砒霜

Prosecutors say that in March of 2023 James Craig's wife of over 20 years Angela, the mother of his six children began experiencing dizziness headaches and vomiting.

Investigators say James Craig used his dental clinics computers to research poisons logging searches such as how to make poison and is arsenic detectable in autopsy.

autopsy [ˋɔtɑpsɪ] n.【医】尸体解剖,验尸

Angela Craig was hospitalized at least three times over ten days before she died in March of 2023.

We exclusively interviewed the so-called other woman a respected orthodontist named Karen Kane their relationship playing out in texts and phone calls.

orthodontist [͵ɔrθoˋdɑntɪst] n. 正牙医生;牙齿矫正医师

Though she says it never got physical.

Do you think that James Craig, allegedly poisoned his wife to clear the decks so he could be with you.

clear the decks 为…做好准备; 【口】(清除不必要的东西)准备某项行动(或活动等)

There's no way I motive, there's been no planning a future together.

motive [ˋmotɪv] v. 使产生动机,激起

And in court today the defense attorney for the dentist tried to paint the picture that James Craig's wife Angela may have been suicidal.

suicidal [͵suəˋsaɪd!] adj. 有自杀倾向的; 自杀的

And David, the prosecution says that that is just another lie from James Craig. They say he also tried to fabricate evidence to show that his wife was suicidal.

Even plotted to try to have the lead investigator in this case killed.

plot [plɑt] v. 密谋,策划

James Craig has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges, David.

Matt Gutman following this trial for us.

Thanks, Matt
