U.S. Senate`s Schedule; Changing The Travel Industry; New Discovery in Egypt; Sleep Habits of Bees; Illuminated Ice Palace

CARL AZUZ, CNN 10 ANCHOR: Hello and welcome to everyone watching around the world. I`m Carl Azuz for CNN 10, your down the middle explanation of

news. We thank you for taking 10 minutes to watch. We`re starting with a look at the U.S. Senate`s upcoming impeachment trial for former President

Donald Trump.

Earlier this month, the House of Representatives voted 232 to 197 to charge the president with incitement of insurrection. His critics say his

statements at a rally on January 6th encouraged the violence that later took place at the U.S. Capitol building. The former president and his

supporters say he only called for a peaceful and patriotic protest.

The House charges were formally presented to the Senate on Monday. Senators are set to be sworn in as jurors on Tuesday. The trial itself

will begin on February 9th and afterward, the Senate will vote on whether to acquit or convict the former president. The votes of 67 Senators or 2/3

of the chamber are required to find the president guilty.

Anything less than that means a leader is not guilty. A complication in all of this is that former President Trump is no longer in office. His

term officially ended at noon on January 20th in accordance with the 20th Amendment to the Constitution. Some legal experts say it`s unconstitutional

to convict a former president who`s already left office.

Others say it is legal for the Senate to try the former president and potentially disqualify him from running for office again. As far as its make up is concerned,

the Senate is split along party lines with 50 Democrats and 50 Republicans who will be considering the case for the

Republican former president. In the meantime, the Senate is holding confirmation hearings and votes for the cabinet nominees of newly

inaugurated President Joe Biden. This is part of the chamber`s constitutional requirement to provide advice and consent to the president.

10 Second Trivia. Which of these cruise lines is the only one that`s still operating under its original name? Imperial Majesty, Royal Viking, White

Star or Cunard. The Cunard line which was founded in 1840 is the only one of these lines that`s still sailing.

No surprise the corona virus pandemic has had a tremendous impact on the global travel industry and what the future holds for it is filled with

questions. Some cruise operators have cancelled all of their trips through this spring.

Some cities are considering new lockdowns. Any international travelers flying to the United States will have to show proof of a negative COVID

test before they can get on the planes. The United Nations World Tourism Organization is pushing for the issue of vaccine passports, proof people

have had a COVID vaccine before they can travel.

Though that`s controversial because of concerns involving the vaccines themselves and people`s private medical information. On top of all of

that, there are different restrictions in different countries. What do you do if you`re constantly crossing borders? Where do you have to wear a

mask? This is why some travel organizations are saying travel agents are crucial. They can help you stay on top of all these changes and make

cancellations if those become necessary. For a completely different approach though, autonomous travel is becoming an option.

ANNA STEWART, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Digital tour guides, fully personalize itineraries and blogging. Travel is becoming digitized. A

Dubai based tech entrepreneur Fabie and Dagascene (ph) are seeing a gap in the market.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The next big idea in the travel industry is autonomous travel, to be able to plan, book and navigate travel experiences.

STEWART: Spurred on by the global pandemic, individual and small group travel is becoming more popular. Dagascene (ph) believes tourists are

looking for tailored and authentic experiences. He`s developed "Street Life". An app that allows you to create their entire trip on their phones.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Hi everyone. I`m Dara. (ph)

STEWART: With local bloggers and Instagram influencers like Zara (ph) and Mira can feed high quality, digital tours of unexplored shop and public

places sharing their local experiences. Users can watch and choose the places they want to visit creating a customized itinerary before starting

their physical journey.

like, create your own tours and book Careems and Ubers to be able to get from one place to the next.

to $305 billion of value to the travel industry by 2025. According to research by the world economic forum. The pandemic is forcing cities to

showcase their landmarks through virtual tours and interactive experiences. But Dagascene (ph) believes advances in technology will complement the

physical travel experience.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Always have to have the physical experience. So we`re building the technology to fully personalize it.

STEWART: His ambitions go beyond Dubai. "Street Life" will launch shortly in Zurich and Berlin. And as more travel restrictions will be lifted,

Dagascene (ph) has plans to expand to other locations. Combining technology with physical travel, Dagascene (ph), "Street Life" is aiming to

become the digital go to for autonomous, personalized and seamless travel. Anna Stewart, CNN.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This discovery. Number one because of the number of the coffins that we found. We took about more than 100 coffins which is

something really, very important. Number two, the standard of living, high rank people, that is why the condition of the coffins not like the one that

we announced October 3rd with those 59 coffins. No. This time, most of them, they were a little bit rich or richer than other one. A little bit of higher rank than

the other one.

AZUZ: Some environmentalists are losing sleep over the sleep of certain insects. Two studies recently focused on a commonly used pesticide called neonicotinoids.

neonicotinoid 类尼古丁

It`s a relatively new class of insecticide that`s harmful to invertebrates like insects but less toxic to vertebrates like people and

pets. The studies found neonicotinoids directly given to bees and flies, the chemicals appeared to disrupt the insects body clocks.

They were reportedly sleeping more in the daytime and foraging more at night. This could affect the bee`s ability to pollinate and collect food

forage [ˋfɔrɪdʒ] v. 搜索粮秣;搜寻

for their colonies because flowers aren`t as available at night. So while neonicotinoids could help keep pests off the crops people grow, the study

suggests they could have negative side effects on bees and pollination.

Too bad I`ve already done a bunch of frozen puns this year because this would have been a really cool opportunity, guess I`ll have to "Let it Go".

You`re taking a virtual stroll through an ice castle. Several of these have been hand sculpted throughout America. Each one measuring about an

acre in size and weighing more than 20 million pounds. It took dozens of artists have put -- three-- two -- took dozens of artists to put -- three--

two -- took dozens artists to put this together. LED lights were used to illuminate it and the castles are built near lakes and other water sources

so that when they melt, the liquid has somewhere to go.

So there will be no "floods" to "futtle" over. No "medieval" in "tens". No "towering" controversies for cities and towns to "joust" over day and

"knight". Just crystal "castles", "draw bridging" together everyone with a "ticket" and a "moat" of transportation who doesn`t mind catching "cold"

when walking through a "winter wonderland".

Chanute is a fun word to say. It`s also a city in Kansas. Chanute, Kansas, home of Chanute High School. It`s great to have you watching.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time for CNN 10. I`m Carl Azuz.
