One Direction got their start on the UK talent show, The X-Factor. In mid 2010, each member entered the contest as a solo singer. However, the show's producers advised them to form a group. They did, and together they were able to win 3rd place. Afterwards, they got a record deal worth two million pounds. A year later they put out their first song, "What Makes You Beautiful". Within six months, it became a hit around the world. And the boys become international superstars.
