The traditional Hakka drink liecha, also known as “ground tea,” has a legendary origin. It is said that, in the Three Kingdoms period, General Zhang Fei found that his soldiers had fallen under the weather. An herbalist cured the troops with a mixture of tea leaves, ginger root, and rice in hot water. Hence, the recipe was passed on, across the land and through the centuries. The drink’s history makes it a cultural treasure.
为大众所熟知的传统客家饮品－擂茶，有着传奇的起源。据说在三国时代，名将张飞发现他的士兵身体不适，一位草药医生便以茶叶、生姜、米混合冲泡热水来医治他的军队。自此，这个配方就流传下来，历经好几世纪并流传到各地。其历史也让它成为了文化宝藏。
Leicha is “ground tea” because, to make it, one must crush and grind the ingredients into powder. A mortar and pestle are the proper tools for this job. In modern times, a wide variety of grains, beans, seeds, and nuts are mixed in. Fans of leicha claim it has a variety of medicinal properties.
擂茶之所以为「擂」茶，是因其调制时，人们必须压碎并研磨材料至粉状为止，擂钵和擂杵为制作上很合适的器具。在现代，各式谷物、豆类、种籽及坚果都被混合掺入其中，擂茶的爱好者称其具有各式各样的药效。
