Magic Above and Below the Ocean

Stepping foot on Green Island, I understood immediately why some people call it “Taiwan’s Hawaii.” The volcano island looks like an emerald ___1___ in the turquoise blue ocean. But perhaps the real beauty of Green Island is not the ___2___ itself – it’s the coral reefs that ring the island. Deciding to go snorkeling, my friends and I easily found a place to rent wetsuits, masks, and snorkels. Gear ___3___, we headed for the wooden walkways which led out to the reefs. We entered the water carefully so as not to ___4___ the coral.

After slipping ___5___ the surface of the water, I couldn’t believe my eyes. ___6___ of fish in electric blues and yellows darted back and forth in the clear water. Orange and white clown fish played amongst pink and purple sea anemones. Overwhelmed by this magical and precious ___7___ world, we stayed in the water as long as we could.

When the time came to return home, we were a little sad, but even leaving Green Island can be a ___8___. Heading back to Taiwan, we noticed we had some very special escorts. All around our boat, flying fish kept popping ___9___ the water, gliding through the air above the waves. With such incredible beauty above and below the water, Green Island made me ___10__the wonders of the oceans surrounding Taiwan and the world.
