Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson can inexplicably read Greek letters and always seems ready to fight. These strange attributes perplex him and often get him into trouble.

On day his class takes a field trip to a museum. At the museum, Jackson is suddenly attacked by one of the Furies of Greek mythology. The creature, it turns out, is Percy’s math teacher. It sounds crazy but to Percy it’s very real. No one else sees the attack, but Percy’s mother believes him. She says there’s a place called Camp Half-Blood where he can be safe though. Percy feels extremely confused about what’s happening to him, but to avoid further harm, he agrees to go to the camp with his mother.

On their way to the camp, something strange happens again. Percy and his mother are attacked by the Minotaur, a creature with a man’s body and a bull’s head. The beast grabs Percy’s mom and she turns into a shower of light as she dies. Although Percy is shocked and angered by his mother’s death, he escapes from the threat of the Minotaur and runs to the camp.

At Camp Half-Blood, Percy’s entire world changes drastically. To his surprise, he discovers that the gods of Greek mythology are real. Percy also finds that he can control water because he is the son of Poseidon, the ocean god. All the recent strange happenings suddenly make sense to Percy.
在混血营中，波西的世界一整个彻底地改变了，让他惊讶的是，他发现希腊神话的众神是真实存在的，他也发现他对水有掌控的能力，由于他正是海神波塞顿之子的关系。突然间，近期发生的所有怪事都能解释了。
One day he hears that Zeus’ master bolt, which lets him create lightning, is missing. Zeus believes Poseidon stole the bolt and will declare war on him if the bolt isn’t returned. However, Percy doesn’t believe that. To clear his father’s name and prevent the war, he goes on a quest to find the bolt.

Rumor has it that Hades, god of the Underworld, is the thief. Percy hopes that, by going to the Underworld, he can also bring his mother back to life.

Soon, he’s on his way and he meets the god of war, Ares, who gives him a bag and says there is some food inside. “How nice,” Percy thinks.

When Percy gets to the Underworld, he finds that Hades doesn’t have the bolt. Instead, Hades accuses Percy of stealing both the master bolt and his missing magical helm of darkness. In that moment, Percy looks inside the bag Ares gave him and is surprised to see that he has the master bolt after all. He quickly flees the Underworld to escape being killed by Hades but, in doing so, fails to rescue his mother.
当波西抵达冥界时，他发现黑帝斯根本没有闪电火，黑帝斯反而指控是波西偷了闪电火及他遗失的魔法黑暗之舵，就在此时，波西往阿瑞斯给他的袋子里一看，很惊讶地发现他其实一直都带着闪电火。他迅速逃离地府以免被黑帝斯追杀，但也因此失去了解救母亲的机会。
Soon after, Percy finds Ares and discovers Ares stole the two items to kick-start a war between the Gods. Furious over Ares’ plan, Percy creates a giant wave and crushes Ares with it. Percy finally finds the stolen objects and returns the helm to the Underworld. Pleased by this, Hades revives Percy’s mother.

Finally, Percy goes home and is happy to be reunited with his mother. But he also decides to return to Camp Half-Blood because he feels that his adventures are far from over.
