Lemuel Gulliver lives in 17th-century England and is fulfilling his dream of traveling the world. He works as a surgeon on ships sailing out to sea and enjoys his job. But one voyage, things go terribly wrong. The ship he is on encounters a violent storm one night and runs into a huge rock. The ship sinks, but thankfully Gulliver jumps overboard and swims to a nearby island. There he falls asleep from exhaustion.

When he wakes up the next morning, he tries to get up but he can’t move. Gulliver looks about and see t hat he is being held down by many small ropes. Surrounding him are hundreds of tiny men, each about 15 centimeters tall. The little people drug him with wine and roll him on a giant cart to the capital of their country, Lilliput. There Gulliver meets their emperor and is impressed with their beautiful and civilized city. He finds the people there are hospitable, and they admire his great strength. As a result, he decides to stay and enjoys their company.

During Gulliver’s stay, the Lilliputians are fighting with their neighbor over a ridiculous argument. They can’t agree on how to properly break an egg: from the small end or the large end. Gulliver uses his strength as a giant to stop an invasion and becomes a hero. However, he doesn’t want to kill any of Lilliput’s enemies. This makes the emperor furious. Gulliver feels disappointed, so he runs away, finds a boat and heads out to sea. A ship eventually picks him up and takes him back to England. Yet, after some time he decides to sail away again.

Soon, Gulliver and a crew of men set sail. After several months, they find an undiscovered land. Gulliver and a few men go to explore the land, but the other men return to the ship and forget Gulliver. Moments later, he sees a giant who is so large that Gulliver only reaches its ankles. Gulliver feels scared and runs away, but another giant finds him. Despite being massive, the giant is delicate with Gulliver and takes him home.

The queen of the land soon learns about the tiny Gulliver and offers the giant a small fortune to have Gulliver as entertainment in her court. There Gulliver learns that the royal giants are simple, innocent people.

One day, the nobles take him on a trip to the countryside, but a huge eagle swoops down, picks Gulliver up, and drops him into the ocean.

After floating for some time, Gulliver reaches another mysterious land. There he finds a race of intelligent horses, called the Houyhnhnms, who are extremely logical, honest, and in tune with nature. They rule a group of humans named Yahoos, who are the opposite of the horses: they cheat, steal, and fight.

Gulliver admires the Houyhnhnms and lives with them. Yet eventually the horses decide to banish him because he looks too similar to the Yahoos.

Gulliver sadly returns to England, but feels everyone around him is unintelligent compared with the Houyhnhnms. So he spends the rest of his days speaking to the horses in his stables while everyone else considers him insane.
