No Formoz, no summer! This was the rallying cry to bring back Taiwan’s iconic international rock music festival. Formoz was founded by Chthonic (闪灵) vocalist Freddy Lim (林昶佐), in 1995 as a small street festival for local bands. Over the years, the festival saw attendance soar, and more stages and bands from overseas were added. Before long, Formoz became a must-see event along with other major Asian music festivals such as Fuji Rock and Summer Sonic. Fans of all kinds of music flocked to the hillside Taipei Children’s Recreation Center (台北市立儿童育乐中心) theme park each summer to see dozens of bands rock numerous stages.

「没有野台，没有夏天！」这是要将台湾代表性国际摇滚音乐祭迎回的口号。野台开唱由「闪灵」主唱林昶佐于1995年创立，当时是为本土乐团举办的小型街头音乐祭。数年后，观众人数激增，更多的舞台及来自海外的乐团加入。不久后，野台开唱成为与「富士摇滚音乐节」及「夏日音速音乐节」等亚洲大型音乐祭一样必看的活动。所有音乐类型的歌迷每年夏天涌入位于山腰的台北市立儿童育乐中心，来看数十组乐团在众多舞台上摇滚。

Unfortunately, Formoz was forced to go on hiatus in 2008 due to the loss of a suitable venue and economic concerns. For the past five years, music fans and artists in Taiwan all hoped it would return. This year, their prayers have been answered. Formoz Festival is back!

遗憾地，野台开唱于2008年失去合适的场地以及经济考虑而不得不停摆。这5年来，乐迷及艺人们无不期盼野台回归。今年，他们的祈愿有了响应。野台开唱回来了！

The 2013 edition of Formoz Festival promises to be an unforgettable event. Bands from multiple countries are on the bill, covering a wide range of musical tastes. Confirmed headliners include veteran alternative rockers Mercury Rev from the US. English indie pop group The xx will also be making an appearance on the main stage.

2013年的野台开唱可望成为一次难忘的活动。演出名单上有来自各国的乐团，涵盖的音乐品味广泛。已确认的领衔演出者包括来自美国的老牌另类摇滚乐团Mercury Rev（水星逆转）；英伦独立流行组合The xx（叉叉乐团）也将在主舞台露面。

Bands from China and Japan have also signed up for gigs, and of course there will be no shortage of local talent. Taiwanese rock mainstay 1976 will be there, as well as shoegaze favorite Manic Sheep who are fresh off their tour of North America. And if the music isn’t enough, there will also be professional wrestling and an air guitar competition for extra fun.

来自中国和日本的乐团将共襄盛举参与演出，而本土艺人当然也不会少。台湾摇滚首席代表1976，以及刚结束北美巡回演出的瞪鞋摇滚爱团Manic Sheep都将在野台出席。如果音乐还不够，野台还有职业摔角以及空气吉他赛来增添乐趣。

This year, Formoz will run for two days on August 3 and 4, once again at the Taipei Children’s Recreation Center right beside scenic Taipei Expo Park (花博公园). An awesome collection of bands from across the glove are going to rock the city. So let’s welcome them, the summer, and the return of Taiwan’s best music festival!
