Various shapes fall from the sky to form uneven rows of blocks. With the aim of clearing the rows, all we have to do is control how the pieces fall and fit within each other. This is how we play Tetris, the world-famous puzzle video game. Tetris came out in Russia in 1984 and was introduced to the rest of the world soon after. Since then, tens of millions of hours have been lost playing this simple game. What has made Tetris so attractive over the years?

At first glance, playing Tetris seems like a pointless activity. But it cleverly takes advantage of our desire to complete jobs, as each falling block provides an unfinished task to solve. Uniquely, every falling block can be a potential solution at the same time. This explains why Tetris is considered an addictive game. The game holds our attention by constantly giving us tasks and opportunities to complete them. It’s no wonder people can become utterly absorbed in this endless game!
乍看之下，玩俄罗斯方块似乎是毫无意义的活动；但它巧妙利用我们想完成工作的欲望。因为每个降落的方块都提供一项待解决的任务；特别的是：每个降落的方块同时也是潜在的解决方案。这解释了俄罗斯方块为何被视为令人上瘾的游戏。这个游戏藉由不断给我们任务和完成任务的机会来抓住我们的注意力。这也难怪人们会完全沉迷在这个永无止尽的游戏中！
