At the dawn of humanity, the Crood family lives in a cave and is led by Grug Crood, who believes in staying safe in the cave and never venturing out. He teaches his family that “new is always bad” to keep them from growing up or being hurt.
人类出现之初，古鲁家族住在山洞里且由父亲咕噜带领，他坚信安全地留在山洞里、且绝不外出冒险是最好的。他教导自己的家人们「新即是坏」，来压抑他们成长、或是免于伤害。
Grug’s oldest daughter Eep disagrees with him though, and desires to explore the outside world. One day, a huge earthquake strikes the prehistoric land. Although the Croods survive the quake, their cave is destroyed and they are forced into the outside world. Before them lies a world of danger and beauty, and there is no way for them to turn back.
不过咕噜的大女儿一妹并不认同他，且渴望去探索山洞外的世界。某天，一场强烈地震撼动这片史前地土，虽然古鲁家族存活下来，山洞却已遭摧毁并且被迫踏进外面的世界。在他们面前的是一个充满危险与美丽的世界，而这一家人已无路可退。
After some time in the wilderness, the family meets a nomad, named Guy, who Eep falls head over heels for. As an explorer, Guy creates new inventions, such as shoes and fire, and dreams of the future. Together with Guy, the Croods make an unexpected journey that broadens their perspectives and changes their family forever.

The Croods, created by DreamWorks Animation, tells the story of the caveman Grug and his family living in a primitive world. The film challenges viewers to think of how to strike a balance between protection and being open-minded in a parent-child relationship.
