I was sitting alone in my room the other day, writing in this diary. All of a sudden, my mom barged right in without even knocking. I thought I had some privacy in my OWN room, but nooooo. She even acted like it’s not a big deal! What if I was trying on a new outfit or talking to a cute boy on the phone? She said she only wanted to “clean up” and nothing else. Is my room that gross?

前几天我独自坐在房里，写着这本日记。突然间，我妈没敲门就闯了进来。我以为我在自己的房间里还有一些隐私，但是并没有！她甚至表现出这事没什么大不了！如果我正在试穿一件新衣服或是跟一个可爱的男生讲电话怎么办？她说她只是单纯想要清扫房间，没有其他的意思。我的房间有那么恶心吗？

I talked to Aiden on the phone after that and he said a similar thing happened to him. Aiden left his cellphone in the kitchen and saw his dad snooping on it, reading Aiden’s text messages. He never asked to see Aiden’s phone; he just picked it up and read everything. How annoying!

发生那件事之后，我跟艾登在电话中聊到，他说也有类似情形发生在他身上。艾登把他的手机放在厨房，后来看到他爸在窥探他的手机简讯内容。他爸都没有先询问艾登的同意才看手机，他只是把它拿起来就开始查看。这多么令人生气啊！

This month is my 16^th birthday and if I could have one thing, it would be my own tree house. At least I would have privacy there and a safe place to keep my personal possessions. Sigh, I can only hope.

这个月就是我16岁的生日，如果我可以拥有一份礼物，我想要属于自己的树屋。至少我在那里可以拥有隐私以及能有一个可以放置我个人物品的安全地方。唉～我只能奢望了。

The Importance of Privacy for Teens 青少年也该有隐私权

Teenagers feel embarrassed and upset when parents read their diaries or text messages, go through their computer, or eavesdrop on their conversations. Teens think this is an invasion of their privacy. If parents don’t respect teens’ privacy, then they think parents don’t respect them, their space, or their belongings. Essentially, the lack of trust makes them feel like children at a time when they’re slowly growing up.

当父母亲阅读青少年的日记或简讯、查看他们的计算机，或是偷听他们的对话时，青少年会感到尴尬以及不高兴。青少年认为这侵犯了他们的隐私。如果父母没有尊重青少年的隐私，青少年会觉得父母不尊重他们本身、他们的空间，或是他们的私人物品。基本上，缺乏信任会使青少年感觉到自己还是个长不大的小孩。

Parents often believe anything their children do is also their business. So when it comes time for teens to have some independence, some parents aren’t ready and get caught off guard. Teens crave freedom as they spend more time sharing experiences with friends than with their parents. When teens ask for privacy, parents need to figure out how much space to give without worrying too much about a teen’s safety. Teens should also let parents know where and with whom they are hanging out, and seek out an adult when encountering an issue they can’t solve on their own. Sometimes teens feel they should be treated as adults, but without the life experiences of an adult, that’s not always totally realistic.

父母们常认为孩子做的任何事情都是他们的责任。所以，当青少年到了开始要求独立的时候，有些父母还没准备好而且感到措手不及。青少年渴望自由，因为他们与同侪分享经验的时间甚至超过与他们的父母。当青少年要求隐私权时，父母必须了解须给予多少空间而不至于过度担心他们的安全。青少年也该让父母知道他们跟谁去了哪里，并且当遇到自己无法解决的麻烦事时，他们应该要寻求成年人的协助。有时候青少年认为自己应被当作大人对待，但缺乏成年人的生活经验，那想法并不完全实际。
