Neiwan, in Hsinchu County, was a busy place when the timber and coal industries of Jian Shi (尖石) were at their peak. Those days are long gone, but the town’s Old Street maintains feeling of past times. Its Japanese-style architecture, old train station, and retro comic designs have a nostalgic quality.
新竹县内湾在过去尖石乡的木材业及矿业达到顶峰时，曾经是个繁忙的城镇，虽过去已不复存在，但这个城镇的老街还是有着早期的味道，它的日式建筑、旧火车站及复古的漫画设计都有着怀旧的质感。
Neiwan Theater, which entertained miners half a century ago, is now a restaurant. However, the building’s exterior hasn’t changed and classic movies are still shown as guests dine. The town’s wooden suspension bridge, which gently rocks as you cross it, provides a wide view of the often-misty Youluo River valley (油罗溪谷). On warm nights, the surrounding woods may sparkle with fireflies.
内湾戏院半个世纪以前曾是矿工的娱乐场所，现在它则是一家餐厅，而这栋建筑物的外观并没有因此改变，客人们依然能边欣赏早期的电影边用餐。这个小镇还有一座吊桥，当你走在上面时会轻轻摇晃，并能看见宽阔且常雾气缭绕的油罗溪谷。在暖和的夜晚，附近的树林也会随着萤火虫闪烁发光。
After taking in the beauty of the area, you can feast on local Hakka specialties. Neiwan is famous for its butterfly ginger (野姜花), a flower used to flavor foods from dumplings to ice cream. Nobody on Old Street stays hungry for long! As a fun, beautiful place that is easy to visit by train and explore on foot, Neiwan is tough to beat.
