Wrap Your Hand Around Zongzi 南粽北粽都包「中」

Pyramid-shaped rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves, or zongzi, are traditionally eaten during the Dragon Boat Festival to honor the poet Qu Yuan (屈原). Today people still eat them to follow custom but also because rice dumplings really hit the spot. Zongzi in Taiwan come mainly in two delicious varieties: northern and southern.

以竹叶包覆的金字塔状糯米粽，或称粽子，是纪念诗人屈原的端午节传统食物。现今人们仍然依循习俗享用粽子，但也可说是粽子真的很对胃口。台湾美味的粽子主要分为两派：北粽和南粽。

In the northern style, rice is fried until it becomes chewy and somewhat similar to oil rice. The fully-cooked rice is combined with various ingredients and then wrapped. The southern variety is not completely cooked at first, however, and usually contains more ingredients, like egg yolk and fried squid. This plumper dumpling then gets steamed and finally topped with soy glaze and peanut powder when eaten.

北部粽的米饭会炒得很有嚼劲，有点接近油饭，完全炒熟的米饭会与各种食材混合并包在一起。而南部粽一开始则只有半熟，通常会和更多食材混合，像是蛋黄以及炒过的鱿鱼，接着再将塞得鼓鼓的粽子拿去蒸，最后淋上酱油膏和花生粉即可食用。

Zongzi have a long history but remain an everyday food that markets sell throughout the year. And since “wrapping dumplings” (包粽) sounds like “guaranteeing success” (包中) in Chinese, zongzi are thought to be as lucky as they are tasty. So, try both kinds of rice dumplings to decide which one is your lucky charm.

粽子有很悠久的历史，现在它依然是市场中常年贩卖的日常食物。由于「包粽」听起来很像中文的「包中」，粽子被认为除了好吃外还可带来好运，所以尝尝两种不同口味的粽子，并决定哪一种才是你的幸运物吧。
