Are you intimidated and confused by grunting men and pools of sweat at the gym? Whether you’re a seasoned gym rat or just trying out the gym lifestyle, here are some points of etiquette to follow.
Keep your sweat to yourself
One thing is certain: no one loves your sweat the way you do. When you work out, carry an old towel to lay across the mats or benches to absorb sweat, or wipe them with your towel after use.
Don’t grunt like a bull
Loud grunting noises when lifting weights are not only obnoxious and distracting for other gym members, but show that you are lifting more iron than you can handle. Try to keep your volume at or below conversational voice level.
Pump iron, don’t drop it 举重,而非抛重
Dropping dumbbell weights is dangerous, because the weights may bounce onto someone’s toe, and damaging, because weights often bend when dropped. Again, dropping weights shows you are out of control, not that you are Arnold Schwarzenegger.
With these common sense rules in mind, the gym can seem like a much less daunting place. If you ever have any questions, ask one of the trainers on duty. These friendly experts can save you a lot of embarrassment.
