Rob and Tina are at a New Year’s bash: 罗勃和蒂娜正在一场新年舞会上：
T: Got any New Year’s resolutions?
有什么新年新决心吗？
R: Yes; not to make any more stupid resolutions that I can’t keep.
有啊：别再做出任何我无法持续的笨决心了。
T: What have you tried?
你试了什么？
R: Last year? Losing weight, exercising more, and applying myself more to my work. But I never make it past the base of the mountain before tumbling back down.
去年吗？减肥、多运动，还有多放点心思在工作上。但别说从山上摔下来了，我连山脚都没越过半次呢！
T: A mountain? You’re just asking for grief if you set your sights that high.
上山啊？你把眼界定得那么高，只是自讨苦吃而已。
R: You think I should make promises that are easier to keep?
你觉得我该许下比较容易信守的承诺？
T: That would definitely help, as would wording your resolution in a less forceful way.
那绝对有帮助；别用那么强烈的方式表达决心，也会有帮助的。
R: Like, instead of saying “I will,” I should say “I’m going to explore ways of”?
比方别说「我要怎样」，改说「我要找出方法来…」
T: Exactly; reaching the base of the mountain is an aspiration in itself.
没错；「抵达山脚」本身就是值得渴求的目标。
R: I guess I should keep it simple, too; I’ll probably have more chance with one or two goals than I will with ten.
我想我也该让事情单纯点；一两个目标说不定比十个目标更有成功的希望。
T: That’s right. Also, avoid trying to achieve everything at once; take one step at a time, and follow a well-thought-out plan.
没错。还有，别一次就想完成所有事情；按部就班，遵循仔细考虑过的计划。
R: Thanks, Tina. It looks like this year, I might finally be able to come up with a resolution that I have no qualms about sticking to as well as sticking up on the refrigerator!
