Many authors and illustrators of children’s books are known for their description of animals, but the ___1___ most famous for drawing and writing about gorillas is surely Anthony Browne. He grew up in Yorkshire, England, ___2___ his father taught him to draw. After leaving school, Browne studied graphic design and painted the ___3___ of people’s bodies for medical textbooks. From there he went on to illustrate greeting cards, and then children’s books. In fact, the book that first made him famous, Gorilla, grew out of a picture he drew for a birthday card.

In his lengthy career, Browne has published ___8___ 40 books and won a number of awards. He received the Hans Christian Andersen Award for children’s literature in 2000, and was named the UK Children’s Laureate from 2009 to 2011. Because of his fascination with gorillas, he was even invited to ___9___ a children’s TV show from inside a cage with several of them. Although the ___10__ wasn’t quite as he imagined, he continues to imagine gorillas, and draw them, to this day!
