A strange tingling feeling spreads through your fingers and thumbs. You’ve been at your computer ___1___ and know you should take a break, but you’re having so much fun chatting on MSN that you carry on. Giving your typing fingers a rest would be the smartest move, though, as overuse of computers is ___2___ linked to an injury called carpal tunnel syndrome, or CTS.

Tingling or numb index fingers and thumbs are the first signs of CTS, and the symptoms can easily develop to affect your entire forearm. In severe cases, patients can find themselves unable to ___3___ small objects, or even to feel heat and cold.
3. |
(A) turn down |
(B) figure out |
(C) identify with |
(D) pick up |
Many doctors believe CTS is a ___4___ of repeated stress on the wrist. Since typing places a certain amount of stress on your wrists, people who use computers a lot, such as students and office workers, are at particular risk of developing the injury.
4. |
(A) cause |
(B) function |
(C) result |
(D) diagnosis |
The good news is that CTS is avoidable. When using your computer, remember to sit correctly, as this will support your arms and wrists. ___5___ sure your chair is the correct height, and don’t lean forward. Wrist splints that keep your wrists straight will also help. And ___6___, you should always take a rest at least once every 20 minutes.
5. |
(A) Making |
(B) to make |
(C) Make |
(D) Made |
6. |
(A) of course |
(B) what’s worse |
(C) in return |
(D) little by little |
So, try not to worry about CTS too much. As long as you take breaks, correct your posture, and possibly invest in a wrist splint, you should never be ___7___ by tingling fingers or numb thumbs.

(B) defined |
(C) addicted |
(D) bothered |
