More and more of today’s youth sport baggy pants, loose shirts, and bling-bling jewelry. ___1___ Hip hop has become the universal language of teenagers.

时下越来越多年轻人喜欢身着垮裤和大衬衫，戴着昂贵的珠宝饰品。他们经常在街上和地铁站跟着热门歌曲饶舌、摇摆。嘻哈音乐已成为青少年的共同语言了。

Jamaican artist DJ Kool is recognized as the father of hip hop. ___2___ He was the first to mix two records over a consistent beat. He was also the first to give shout-outs to people in the crowd: “Matt is in the house ….. from the town of Mickey Mouse!” This evolved into people rapping rhyming lyrics over music to express the hardships in their life, such as prejudice, poverty and corrupt politicians. ___3___

Hip hop quickly grew in popularity. ___4___ Some popular hip hop artists, who now make millions, rap about sex, drugs and gangs. Parents worry that it is sending the wrong message to their children. ___5___ Through dance and rap, teenagers are able to vent their frustrations and express their feelings in a way that is both healthy and creative.
