Farmers in ancient times examined the plants around them to determine when the time was right to plant their crops. ___1___ This study of life cycles, known as phenology, is one of humankind’s oldest sciences. ___2___
As climates change, phenological information is also changing. ___3___ Scientists are making efforts to record and study the changing natural cycles of plants in order to track the progress of global warming and its effect on the environment.
One of these endeavors is known as Project BudBurst. ___4___ Scientists will be able to compare each year’s information with data from previous years to determine how the warmer weather has affected the plants. ___5___
