All over the world, people love to wind down over a refreshing glass of beer with friends. Nowhere, though, is this pastime more fervently celebrated than in the German city of Munich, where every fall around six million beer-lovers gather together to eat, drink, and be merry. Oktoberfest, as this event is known, is a local festival which has grown over the years into a grand celebration with worldwide appeal.

全世界的人都喜欢和朋友来杯消暑解疲的啤酒放松一下。但是没有哪个地方能像德国的慕尼黑一样纵情欢庆这项娱乐。每年秋天都有大约6百万名啤酒爱好者聚集此地，一起品尝美食，饮酒作乐。这项活动叫做慕尼黑啤酒节（「十月节」）。多年以来，它已经从一个地方性的小节日发展成为风行世界的盛大庆典。

Oktoberfest runs annually for a total of 16 days between mid-September and the start of October. This year, there is extra cause for celebration as it is precisely two hundred years since the first Oktoberfest. That original occasion, on October 18th, 1810, was held to commemorate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria. The festival became a yearly event in 1819, and in 1835, a splendid parade featuring thousands of locals in traditional costumes was incorporated into the festivities. This parade remains a central component of Oktoberfest.

While Oktoberfest is free to attend, the revelers inevitably splash plenty of their cash on the main draw of the festival – beer. An average of seven million liters of this “liquid gold” is consumed each year under the roofs of fourteen massive tents, the biggest of which can hold nearly 9,000 people. Apart from beer, there’s plenty of delicious local food such as sausages and pork knuckles to relish, as well as lots of exciting rides for adults and children to enjoy. So raise your glasses and offer a hearty “Prost!” to this most vibrant and time-honored of festivals.

慕尼黑啤酒节是免费参加的，但是来此狂欢的人绝对会花大把钞票在庆典最大的卖点上：啤酒。每年在14座至多可容纳9千人的巨型啤酒棚下，都有平均7百万公升的「液体黄金」被人一干而尽。除了啤酒之外，你还可以大啖像是德式香肠和德国猪脚等多种当地美食，甚至还有许多刺激的游乐设施供男女老少同欢共乐。所以，请举起你的酒杯，对着这项最热闹且历史悠久的节庆由衷地大喊一声：「干杯！」
