Facing stiff competition in the 2008 Bakery World Cup in Paris, the Taiwanese team’s flour power earned them second place, outdone only by France. At this event, also known as the Olympics of Baking, 12 teams from different countries competed fiercely, including the winners of the previous Cup in 2005, the U.S., France and Japan.
台湾队在2008年巴黎世界杯面包大赛中,发挥面粉实力,于激战中拿下亚军,排名仅次于法国。此一盛会又称为「面包界奥运」,来自各国的12支队伍激烈竞争,包括2005年上届比赛前三名:美国、法国和日本。
Under a time limit of eight hours, each team of three bakers created delicacies to be entered in the European, Sweets and Artistic categories. Each team baked hundreds of items. The judges then rated the bread on its appearance, texture, aroma and taste.
每一队的三位师傅必须在八小时内,依欧式、甜点与艺术三项目做出美味的面包。各队皆烘制数百个成品。评审针对面包的外形、质感、香气及口味来评分。
The Taiwanese team’s secret weapon was a one-kilogram French-style loaf of bread. Special dried longan, which the bakers had prepared prior to the competition by smoking it for approximately six days, was used to give the heavy-weight bread a delicious Taiwanese flavor. Walnuts and wheat germ were also added, giving the bread a natural, earthy texture. For the finishing touch, the Taiwanese team added some red wine to bring out the bread’s aroma. The bread delighted the judges with its crispy crust and soft, fruity inside. Thanks to their hard work and creativity, Team Taiwan tasted sweet victory.
