A Golden Harvest for Taiwanese Film 金穗奖：「金」采绝伦大丰收

The Golden Harvest Awards may not be as well-known as the Golden Horse Awards, but they are just as important because they give recognition and lend support to the up-and-coming generation of Taiwanese filmmakers.

金穗奖也许不像金马奖或台北电影节奖一样众所周知，不过它的重要性与后者旗鼓相当，因为该奖表扬台湾电影制作人才，也支持这些前景看好的崛起新秀。

Established in 1978 by the Government Information Office, the annual prizes are intended to give a boost to young filmmakers. Originally, they were awarded for experimental films, but now they include categories for drama, documentary, and animation. With prizes totaling around NT$3 million, it’s plain to see that the awards are an incentive to budding filmmakers – the NT$300,000 top prize would undoubtedly go some way to helping a promising director establish a successful career.

金穗奖于1978年由新闻局创办，一年一度的颁奖目的是要鼓励年轻的电影创作者。起初奖励的是实验电影，但现在金穗奖的类型包含了剧情片、纪录片以及动画片。因为奖金共计有台币3百万元，所以不难理解，这对刚开始崭露头角的电影创作者是一大激励。台币30万元的首奖奖金无疑地会对前途无量的新锐导演有所帮助，帮助他们开创成功的事业。

In fact, the awards have been dubbed “a cradle for successful Taiwanese directors” as many prior winners have gone on to noteworthy accomplishments. Arguably the most famous example is Ang Lee, the Oscar-winning director of such films as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Brokeback Mountain. Previous recipients who have recently seen their star on the rise include Te-sheng Wei, director of 2008’s big hit Cape No. 7, and Winds of September director Tom Shu-yu Lin.

事实上．金穗奖被称作是培育台湾成功导演人才的「摇篮」，因为先前的获奖者中，有许多人都接着达到更非凡的成就。最有名的例子要属奥斯卡金奖导演李安了，他执导过《卧虎藏龙》及《断背山》等巨作。有些之前的获奖者最近名号也越来越响亮，像是2008年卖座电影《海角七号》的导演魏德圣，还有《九降风》导演林书宇。

The 32nd Golden Harvest Film Festival takes place this month, with another past winner, Leon Dai, acting as the spokesman. So, be sure to check out all the “golden” talent from this year’s “harvest” by catching free screenings of the 48 nominees at Eslite bookstores from March 12th to March 21th.
