3-D TV was the big hit of the annual electronics show 3-D电视在年度电子展上大出风头

While 2009 was a year most would like to forget, 2010 got off to a rousing, optimistic start – at least for tech followers at January’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Opinions are already running strong – both hot and cold – on the likelihood of 3-D TV taking off in the United States. But let us not forget, there were naysayers about HDTV, too.

For starters, cool HD flicks like Avatar, Up and the Disney remake of Alice In Wonderland with Johnny Depp already have a majority of movie fans psyched to bring the technology home, say the market researchers of In-Stat. 3-D movies scored more than 1.3 billion in ticket sales last year, a threefold increase over the prior year.

In truth, the new living room 3-D displays could make these movies pop better than they do at the theaters, thanks to fancier glasses (LCD shutter-type, rather than polarized) and brighter screens less likely to cause eyestrain.

The words “Internet connectivity”showed up on lots of audio and video products at CES. The Sony Dash is a bit of both – a table-radio-sized, Wi-Fi connected device with a 7-inch color touch screen. Dash will deliver movies and TV shows and instant access to more than 1,000 apps, including popular social networking, news, weather, traffic, sports and more.

Ford is marketing to the tech-savvy auto buyer as the voice- and touch-screen-activated Sync control system expands later this year with a next-generation version called MyFordTouch. New features include a Wi-Fi hub for back-seat web surfers and connected game players.

Lots of “green” consciousness was oozing at this year’s CES. Most exciting was a display of Panasonic’s highly efficient Residential Fuel Cell, already available in Japan. This refrigerator-sized power plant makes electricity from natural gas and hydrogen (from the air), storing the power in a battery and using the processing heat to warm a 53-gallon water tank to 149 degrees. Bring it on!
