On the walls of the Queen Museum of Art hangs a modern masterpiece. The painting depicts a group of men with identical pink faces and devil horns ___1___ out of their heads. Side by side, they ___2___ from ear to ear. However, a closer glance reveals something more. A ___3___ of sorrow and pain also lies hidden within their smiles. The faces in the painting are the face of the ___4___ himself: contemporary Chinese artist Yue Minjun.

Yue ___5___ from humble beginnings to become one of China’s most famous modern artists. As a young man, he worked in the oil fields in Northern China. It wasn’t ___6___ his early twenties that he enrolled in college to study oil painting. One day he saw a painting by artist Geng Jianyi and was ___7___ by it. The painting’s smiling face depicted a deep sadness that inspired Yue.
