Spectacular scenery, ancient culture, and delicious cuisine often spring to mind when thinking of Greece. For the romantic at heart, the Mediterranean country is also famous for a delightful tradition ___1___ back centuries: the Greek wedding.

Consisting of complex ___2___ passed down over generations, the Greek wedding is rich in symbolism that represents the beliefs of Orthodox Christianity. To symbolize the Holy Trinity, many parts of the ceremony are ___3___ three times. This includes the “crowning ceremony,” ___4___ the couple wears thin crowns to symbolize God’s blessing. Because of this ___5___ significance, however, not everyone can have a Greek wedding: you must be an Orthodox Christian!

There are also plenty of traditions to observe before and after the ceremony. Beforehand, the bride writes the names of ___6___ friends on her shoes, and those whose names are rubbed off first are said to be destined to tie the knot ___7___.
