Ever wished you had just a few more hours of daylight to get that little bit extra done? Then, Daylight Saving Time (DST) could be just what you need!

DST is a system where the time is altered to literally get more out of the day. ___1___ Under the system, used mostly in places fairly near the poles, clocks are moved forward an hour every spring and then back again in fall. ___2___

___3___ However, opponents argue that it increases traffic accidents as drowsy commuters adjust to rising earlier. ___4___ For example, some people take advantage of the extra hour to run errands or visit friends by car, thus consuming more gasoline.

In Taiwan, DST has been tried but never permanently adopted because of complaints about its inconvenience. In countries closer to the equator, DST is less useful since days and nights are more equal in length. ___5___
