Luke, a businessman from Canada, is having coffee with his Taiwanese friend, Jennifer:  一位来自加拿大的生意人路克正和他的台湾朋友珍妮弗喝咖啡：

L: After coffee, maybe we could do some shopping and check out that new Italian leather boutique.

J: I can’t: I’ve got to get to my step class at the gym.

L: I noticed you’re looking quite buff. Has my world-class shopper decided to become a world-class athlete?

J: Hardly, but with the economic downturn I’ve been spending more time at the gym rather than spending a lot of money I don’t have at boutiques and expensive restaurants.

L: I see your point: going to the gym at least gives you a return on your investment; it allows you to work off some stress while firming and toning your body.

J: Absolutely, but it’s also a great excuse to socialize somewhere other than in a bar. Pumping iron or doing step classes is an ideal way to combine entertainment with self-improvement.

一点都不错，但是这也是在酒吧以外的场合交际的好理由。举重或阶梯运动是一个结合娱乐与自我提升的理想方式。

L: I’m sure your healthy, powerful appearance can’t hurt when you’re closing a deal either.

J: Certainly, but fitness is far more than just a business tool, it’s also a symbol of my self-discipline.

当然，但健康绝对不是一项生意上的工具；它同时也是自律的一种表征。

L: Would you be offended if someone suggested it was also symbolic of your sex appeal?

J: Maybe, but that would depend on who was making the suggestion!
