Two men face off inside a circle; they ___1___ to twirl in the air with acrobatic sweeps of their legs that only just miss each other’s heads. Then, they embrace and smile, returning to the outside of the circle to join in the singing. Are they fighting or dancing? In fact, they are doing ___2___. This is Capoeira, a performance art form that combines elements of martial arts and dance, as well as being a kind of playful game.

Capoeira originates from Brazil, ___3___ it was first practiced by African slaves.
